5 Tips To Finding A New Gym

5 things to look for when searching for a new group training gym

Finding a new gym can be daunting. It’s scary to branch out and be the “new person” again and starting something new will awaken the negative voice in your head. Will they like me? Will I fit in? Are the coaches knowledgeable and trustworthy? It’s like you’re starting all over again. And for those who found it difficult the first time could find themselves reverting back to their old habits, eventually falling off the wagon so to speak.

When you connect with members of your gym you build relationships that strengthen your confidence and willpower to succeed. The coaches and trainers become mentors and you begin to discover a new perspective on health and fitness that enhances all aspects of your wellbeing.

There are many factors to consider when trying to decide which one is the best for you. In this article we will explore some of those factors and share some helpful tips to give you the tools to find a good quality gym and make the process a little easier.

Here are 5 things helpful tips to research and look for to find a great gym, in no particular order.

  1. Research Their Reviews. Small business owners live and die by reviews. Not only the rating but also how many positive reviews they have. I’ve found that if a small business has 100 or more reviews then their customers were influenced enough either good or bad to leave a review.

  2. Most gyms offer a FREE TRIAL. If it’s a reputable business there should be a system or process. Look for a way to make an appointment or a contact us link (our contact us) within an hour you should get a response to schedule a time and day.

  3. How welcoming are the members? Being vulnerable to workout in front of people you don’t know is scary enough. It’s even harder when nobody interacts with you or the coach doesn’t introduce themselves. It’s way more enjoyable when the other members accept new people and there are no cliques.

  4. How clean is the equipment and the gym? If the equipment is clean and operational (same goes for restrooms) it shows how much they care. If they care that much for equipment and restrooms then they probably care deeply for their members. The equipment needs to be operational and function safely but they don’t necessarily need the most expensive and up to date Rogue equipment to get you the results. If they do have lots of bigger items, such as rowers and bikes, then that’s a plus, as long as they’re working that is.

  5. Coaches attentively coaching. Does the coach merely wear a coach shirt, start the clock and cheer you on or are they actually trying to correct and make you better? This could take some time which is why they should offer a free trial. Communicate where your strengths and weaknesses are and see if they’re able to properly walk you through options to scale in order to give you a great workout while keeping you safe.

While it’s never fun switching or starting over at a new place, there are lots of gyms out there that could potentially be better than where you were. Go out and give a few places a shot and if your in our area come in for a free trial and let us show you why we are Houston’s #1 Gym.
